The family under the bridge
Set in Paris just before Christmas, this heartwarming story follows Armand, an elderly, solitary hobo who cherishes his carefree, independent life on the streets. He views children as troublesome "starlings" and is determined to keep his distance. However, his favorite, sheltered spot beneath a bridge on the Seine is unexpectedly occupied by three cold and hungry children: Suzy, Paul, and Evelyne, whose mother, a poor, homeless basket-maker, has hidden them there. Though initially reluctant, Armand finds his heart softening and soon takes on the role of a makeshift father figure. He realizes he must sacrifice his solitary freedom and find a way to get the little family a secure home, an adventure that leads them through the streets of Paris and even involves encounters with gypsies and Father Christmas.
