Arthur's Nose
In Arthur’s Nose, Arthur is a first grader who decides that he doesn’t like his nose, so he goes to the rhinologist to change it and get a new one. He tries on several, but ultimately decides, to the relief of his friends and family, saying, “I’m just not me without my nose!” The Arthur books are not too bad. They tend to be a little on the zany side, but there is nothing necessarily wrong with that. However, they also tend to be a little more politically correctArthur’s dad is a stay at home chef while his mother is a high-powered attorney who works outside the home. And while I have seen no actual evidence of it, I fear that the “let’s accept everyone as he or she is” attitude which underlies the books could open the door for the introduction to children of “alternate livestyles.”
