To The Lighthouse
Mrs Woolf first became known to the wider reading public with the publication of A Room of One's Own in 1929. But the year before that, her novel To the Lighthouse had been awarded the Northcliffe and Femina Vie Heureuse prizes. It has since been translated into many languages, including French, German, Spanish, and Italian. Virginia Woolf's technique was all her own. In the words of Naomi Royde-Smith: 'Mrs Woolf is illuminated, analytic, and radiant with a personal quality that increases with every book she writes, and has in To the Lighthouse reached a pitch unsounded by any English writer of her school
